Last week, our 1st Grade Students had a VERY special visitor at Westview! Mrs. Sue Kies, a published author and former Platteville High School teacher, talked to the group about the book they are reading, "Sassy's Vacation"! 🐢

Students got the opportunity to ask Mrs. Kies about the different parts of the book and what it was like writing it. The book is even based on the Rountree Branch Trail right here in Platteville! 🤩

Last week, we had the honor of welcoming Nedallas Hammill, a World Champion Native American Hoop Dancer, to perform at our schools! ✨

This was an AMAZING experience to learn more about hoop dancing and also Nedallas, who is currently a UW-Platteville Student and who also performed at last year's Super Bowl! 🤩

Congratulations to Platteville High School's Rowan Chmielewski for receiving 1st Place in the UW-Platteville Business Challenge! 🏆

👉 She was challenged to serve as a business manager and make decisions about launching a product with a focus on the company's marketing mix!

Jessica Puls, our district Occupational Therapist, recently partnered with Dr. Harold (Hal) Evensen, an Engineering & Physics Professor and the Holiday Toy Hack at UW-Platteville to switch adapted toys for one of our students to purposefully engage the student in classroom activities! 🤩

Dr. Evensen leads the university's efforts towards providing these adaptive toys for students and yesterday he brought over a donation of 3 toys and a switch -- we are so grateful for this gracious donation! ❤🤍

Platteville High School Marching Band Director, Kevin Cooley, has been selected to march in 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® with The Band Directors Marching Band! 🥁

The Saluting America’s Band Directors project brings together band directors from across the country to New York City on November 23, 2023, for the parade! This year's theme is “America’s band directors: We teach music. We teach life.”! 🎶

👉 Mr. Kevin Cooley has been selected to join a marching band of 400 band directors -- tune in to the broadcast on Thanksgiving to see him!

We are SO grateful for our friends at Southwest Health & Ruby's Pantry for their recent donation of food supplies and multi-purpose drawstring bags! Through this donation, the district is able to provide supplemental nutrition to students in need during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Breaks.❤

👉 Ruby's Pantry has graciously donated excess food supplies from their most recent events while members from Southwest Health have generously provided bags that will be utilized in a variety of ways amongst the student body!

Check out this group of 3rd Grade Students in Mrs. Robert's class! 🌷

They are learning all about how and why flowers are pollinated. In the activity, students made flower models out of paper and bee models out of pipe cleaners. Students flew their bees from flower to flower and observed what happens to the flower’s pollen during this process! 🐝

Students in Mrs. Johnson's 4K Class had a VERY special visitor this week in their classroom! 📖

👉 UW-Platteville Men's Basketball player, Miles Hettinger, read "The Day the Crayons Quit" -- a class favorite!

These students participated in the Reading with Pioneers program put on every year by the UW Platteville Men's Basketball team & Coach Jeff Gard. Every student they read to receives a complimentary ticket to a regular season home game! 🏀

Last week, students from the Platteville High School Intro to Education Class completed a set of classroom observations at Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center! 🍎

👉 This class is new to the high school this year and serves as a dual credit (high school & college) credit through our partner, UW-Platteville!
.
Students in this class have expressed an interest in a career in education and had a blast observing what being a teacher is really like! ✨
