Construction & Design Updates

On November 8, 2022, the Platteville community approved a facilities referendum which authorizes the District to borrow $36 million for facility improvements. Thank you!

The referendum plan includes work at all four campus sites, including a renovation of the cafeteria and gymnasium at the Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center, a parent pick-up/drop-off at Westview Elementary, a restroom and classroom addition at Platteville Middle School, and improvements at Platteville High School including a CTE classroom addition, cafeteria/kitchen renovations, and an outdoor activities complex.

Process

Since the referendum passed, the district moved into planning and design with our partners at PRA, Point of Beginning, and Miron Construction. Staff user groups have been formed and are providing valuable input into the design process.

Estimated Project Timeline

The graphic below provides a high-level overview of the design and construction schedule. Note that the timeline may shift as the work progresses and as we adapt to changing conditions.

Activities Complex Design

The district is excited to be moving forward in the design and bid portion of the facilities improvement plan. Construction of the Activities Complex is set to begin in the coming weeks as nature allows.

School Building Projects to Begin September 2023

The School Building Projects happening at Platteville High School, Platteville Middle School, and Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center are set to begin construction at the beginning of the school year with a phased construction schedule designed to mitigate the disturbance to student learning. Westview Elementary School parent pick-up/drop-off will begin in June 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2023-24 school year.

Q: How will the remediation work at the Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center impact the facility improvement plan?

On December 26, 2022, a water pipe burst at the Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center
causing significant damage to the east end of the building.

The facility improvements approved by the November 8 Referendum consists of the gymnasium, cafeteria, and restroom areas on the west side of the building. Thus, the remediation work will have no impact on the upcoming construction set to begin in the Spring of 2024.
