The Platteville High School wrestling program competes at junior varsity and varsity levels and coops with Belmont High School. Competitions can be dual or multi-school invitational. The varsity team competes in the WIAA tournament series at the end of the season.
Practices are held after school. Because of shared practice facilities with the gymnasts, practice times can be early or late. Late practices will go no later than 7:30 p.m. Occasional morning and weekend practices can also be expected.
Expectations for participants in this program include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Punctuality and attendance at all practices and events, unless previously excused by the coach.
2. Represent self, team, school, and family in a very positive manner.
3. Exemplify good sportsmanship.
4. Team members must ride to and from all events with the team in a school authorized vehicle. If parents need to make any special arrangements because of unusual circumstances, they must do so in writing. The coach will then decide whether or not to honor this request upon seeing the parent.
5. Coaches should be notified by parent concerning any medical concerns before the season begins.
6. All athletes must meet academic requirements.
Wrestling is a very demanding sport. Participants need to be in extremely good physical condition. Practices are usually "short and sweet." The season begins the second Monday in November and runs through February. A pre-season skinfold test is provided by the school. Late season participants may have to pay for a skinfold test.
