The Literary Magazine is a showcase for the short stories, poems, essays and artwork created by Platteville High School students. The magazine is published twice a year by a group of students in grades 9-12 who are interested in:
•creative writing (either theirs or others)
•using their skills to create a product
•the publishing process
•working together and making new friends
Some of the skills needed and developed through working on the magazine are:
•group decision-making
•word processing
•proofreading and editing
•layout
•illustration
•organization and leadership skills
Students who have gained experience in previous years and have good editing skills and a commitment to the magazine are eligible to be named editors and assistant editors.
The time commitment is minimal during the first and third quarters. Only a few meetings are required to make decisions about the next edition and plan a promotional campaign. During the second and fourth quarters, work sessions are held twice a week, with members working whenever they are available. Students who do the art work often work on their own time. Finishing up a magazine is always a time for celebration!
