Students have the opportunity to try out for the squad in the spring. Tryouts consist of learning a cheer, dance, and jumps. Students who are interested must attend an informational meeting to acquire the necessary paperwork. Teacher referrals on behavior and grades will be filled out and returned to the coach by the first day of tryouts. If selected, they will cheer for football and basketball and will attend various cheerleading competitions and fundraisers. Practice usually begins the first week of August.
Student expectations include:
1. Attend practices, games, and performances unless previously excused by the coach. Three unexcused absences will result in elimination from the squad. Practice and performance schedules will be set up by the coach and handed out at the beginning of the season.
2. Uniforms must be cared for and returned at the end of the season. Cheerleaders are responsible for purchasing their own warm-ups, shoes, poms, undergarments, ribbons and socks. This total will not exceed $150.00.
3. All cheerleaders must ride to and from games and performances with the coach unless otherwise arranged.
4. Cheerleaders are to maintain an appropriate level of fitness and flexibility.
5. Cheerleaders are to hold themselves to a higher standard of conduct. Negative behaviors will not be tolerated.
There are also some parent responsibilities. These include tailgating during football games and donating some baked goods to fundraisers. Occasionally, we will need extra hands at fundraisers. Fundraising money goes towards entry fees for competitions, supplies, new uniforms, banquet gifts, and awards for participants.
